Actually, I’m probably not, as most moms would probably relate to this at least in some form.

Damien woke up early this morning, no biggie though really, I can definitely survive. We cuddled in bed for awhile reading Humpty Dumpty (its the only kids book I had in our room) and sang some songs (Do Re Mi for one, because the book has pictures of a doe and her fawn) and cuddled and tickled. It was actually a really great way to wake up. Really Great. REALLY GREAT. I wish every morning could be like that.

Afterwards (and I did this because I wanted to get coffee started - can’t be a mom without coffee!) I put PBS on (the east coast feed) to watch Sesame Street with Damien. One of the songs they play sounds a lot like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Anyway, I hadn’t heard the song in awhile and went searching to find it. (I’ve linked what I found that best suits it, although the version we have on the unaccessible harddrive is even better - to me). The reason I say I’m the biggest sap is this: when Damien was a new born, and up all hours of the night, I’d play this song repetively while we rocked back and forth in the computer chair (we didn’t have any other moving chair yet) with the faint light of a monitor who’s brightness was minimized. Sometimes this would mean listening to this song for an hour, because I’d fall half asleep and not want to move. Anyway…..this morning when I listened to the song (via the first link on YouTube) I cried. A lot. And then Damien came over and wanted to dance with me, and while we’re dancing he says “hand” so we can hold hands and dance. I swear …. this being a mom thing is so emotional for me right now, with him growing up and becoming more and more independent (he doesn’et need me to carry him around, he can walk, he feeds himself, he drinks from a big boy cup, he voices what he wants and when…etc…etc…etc..) that having that little moment of closeness just made me lose it completely.

And that, is why I’m the biggest sap you’ll ever meet…..right now
