101 Things
Well, I figured if everyone else is doing it, why not me! This might take forever to do, so we’ll have to see, it’ll take its time to be built….thats a guaranteed thing. I really don’t think I can think of 101 seperate thoughts or comments about myself all in one sitting…although it’d be a good challenge!
- I have TWO middle names!
- I am very much left handed
- I am my dad’s birthday present (I was born the day after his) this makes it really easy to remember his birthday - and age, because he is exactly 30 years and 1 day older than me.
- I was named after a witch from the tv show Dark Shadows
- My brother’s birthday is on the same date of a different month than mine (I’m July 5th, he’s April 5th)
- I have never gone to the same school for more than 3 years. We only moved once in all that time. The reason being: I went to kindergarten at a french immersion school, they needed more class space so moved a bunch of us to another school, where I went from grade 1 to grade 3. In grade 3 I (at least I think it was me) decided I didn’t like french school anymore and transferred to the english school. I was in english elementary school from grade 4 to grade 6. Junior highs where I grew up were grade 7-9 and then we finished off in a high school. There, no school longer than 3 years!
- I am afraid of bees (not deathly afraid of them, just really really scared of them, I scream, try to run, and almost get a panic attack)
- I have a bit of a fear of worms, because of book/cartoon called How To Eat Fried Worms
- I am a hopeless romantic, and haven’t had anything extra romantic ever done for me.
- I think I was scared of being in love for the longest while, and because of that, ruined what might have been “The One”. I regret it completely, but at the same time it made me who I am now. For that I am happy. However, it doesn’t stop me from wishing I would’ve seen what was there, or stopped me from being so hurtful. Anyway…if I dwell on this, it’ll be bad. (I’m sorry)
- My first memory is of me trying to save my mom. She had a TIA (this left her half paralysed on the floor in her bedroom, with my new born when I was only about 3 years old. I know I was only this old from her telling me, but also because of where we lived. What I remember is wearing my rainbow rain boots (oh man where they ever so cool) and my blue sesame street shirt. We lived near a firehall at the time so I went there to see if anyone was there (nobody was) and then headed for the school / gas station area to get help. Around this point in time is when one of my dad’s co-workers saw me and radio’d him. I don’t remember this, and the next thing I remember is seeing the city lights of Victoria - at night.
- I am very close to my mom now, but only after I moved away from her. (Currently 1000 miles away
) - I went to Japan when I was 15. It was probably the most important life experience I had until I became a mom.
- I lost half of each side of my grand parents when I was 15 as well. My mom’s dad passed away because of a blood clot and then my dad’s mom was in a fatal car accident.
- I didn’t cry - and still haven’t for my dad’s mom. I was much closer to her, and wish she was till around, but I am unable to have a good cry about it. I’ll tear up and thats it.
- Seeing my dad cry was the WORST experience I have ever had. EVER.
- I might possibly be a Daddy’s Little Girl - even at 25.
- The wrost thing my dad has ever said to me was something along the lines of how dissapointed he was in me because of my “unplanned” pregnancy. I cried for days about it.
- I am very glad I ended up pregnant. My son is my reason d’etre now. Without him my life would be incomplete.
- I have a very good memory for song lyrics.
- I also have a very…strange taste in music. (meaning I listen to almost anything)
- I don’t remember NOT having a computer in our house (I was born in 1981…do the math
) - I have never bought a computer. Every single one I have was purchased by someone else for me to use. I might be spoiled in this sense.
- This is kind of easier than what I had imagined.
- I’m not married yet…I want to be married but never actually say so. I always say “of course I do - what little girl doesn'’t?” instead of “hell yes” or something more truthful.
- I’m kind of scared that I’ll never get married - I honestly don’t know if I’m ok with this fact.
- My eyes are so bad that I’m half way to legally blind.
- I’d like to think I can sing decently - I’m scared to know the real truth though.
- If infact I did sing good, I’d like to think I could be in a band, because I love to sing.
- In junior high my favourite class was band - I know I’m such a GEEK!
- I was in band from grade 5 all the way to grade 12. Even though in high school I had to show up at school early three times a week because they didn’t have space enough in our schedule.
- I don’t know who my very best friend is. I have really good GOOD GREAT friends, and I’m sure one of them is my best friend, but the ones who I’m closest to, aren’t closest to me (distance wise)
- I’m very afraid of driving or being a passenger in a vehicle in the winter - and even sometimes in the summer. I probably ought to get that looked into.
- I LOVE GIRAFFES! (I just realized this ought to have been much higher in the list, but I don’t want to wreck my list
- I used to drink overly profusely, yet never ever once went home with a stranger. I always came home. I’m kind of proud of this fact, but ashamed of how heavily I drank.
- I have never been further east than Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I count Japan as going west, because we flew west from Vancouver.
- I have been as far south as Tijuana, Mexico. For a whole day. We bought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles piggy banks (I think my brother might still have his?) and “Mexican blankets” and cheap-made, cheap-priced jewellery.
- When I was 11 I thought Circus-Circus was the neatest thing ever invented!
- The first concert (that was not kids music) that I remember going to was Doug and the Slugs. They played the free stage at the PNE when I was young (not sure when exactly) and my parents insisted on going. At first I hated the music, but by the end of the show I was dancing. Listening to their music now makes me realize - I’m awesome, I liked “ska” type music before it was popular in Canada - and most other places too!
- Building lists like this are really fun, I might have to find other ones to do (any ideas anyone?)
- My son will be at least bi-lingual, since his dad’s family is half Chilean, and therefor all of them speak Spanish fluently. I do not speak fluently yet. However, I’ve realized recently that I’m really starting to understand more things.
- I still find Adam Sandler movies HILARIOUS.
- SNL - Celebrity Jeopardy brings back all sorts of good memories for me - AN ALBUM COVER, THERAPISTS, BELOW ME, ELEVENTYBILLION, et al.
- I hate hate hate hate tomatoes. They gross me out. I love ketchup, and easily can tolerate tomato soup.
- I never applied myself in highschool. Maybe for the very first semester of 10th grade, but after that I really didn’t care, I think I got senioritis a bit too early.
- I never skipped a class until I was in grade 12. And then it became a very bad habit. Steiner’s had great breakfasts and the company was always fun.
- I think I started getting a crush on my old neighbour. I thought he was a creep when he first moved into the house across from ours, but by the time we finished highschool I really thought he was sweet. We kept in contact some after high school, and then I moved away.
- I do not like Dr Pepper.
- I thought Crystal Pepsi was an ingenious thing, and would still buy it now if they made it.
- It has been a month minus one day since I last wrote in my 101 things. I feel bad for abandoning it so easily.
- I had a dream last night about some random people robbing me…of a blanket and a pillow, and the only way I managed to stop them was by screaming that my son wouldn’t sleep without them (which isn’t true, its not like they stole his blue’s or a specific toy they were just a blanket he likes and a pillow he likes). Then all our neighbours came to my rescue and made my yard burglar proof.
- I love the song Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits - a lot, it makes me feel…alright with everything - in the world…like maybe we’ll get through having all this horrible stuff going on.
- The first email address I remember having is still functioning (fred_much@hotmail.com) its the email address I use for MSN and even though I rarely check the email itself, I refuse to get of it. Way too much is there, just being able to say I’ve had it for 10 years is good enough.
- The first nickname I really remember having is Smiley, Adam (whose last name I cannot remember) called me it all during grade 7…I had the hugest crush on him. HUGEST! After that came Scoob/Scooby…from my 2 best friends, its the name I carried over to the internet, along with the zillions of other people.
- I cried during Batteries Not Included. I cry during a lot of things, I’m a big giant sap and I’m overly emotional.
- My favourite kind of pizza involves pepperoni. I know its so normal, but it really is tasty, especially with a cheesy dipping sauce.
- I’m a very picky eater. I dislike most vegetables, some fruits, and most seafood because I don’t like how most people cook theirs. I won’t eat the following things even if it means being polite: shell-fish, mushrooms, cauliflower, lima beans, beans, beans and beans (unless its a chili…mmmm), brussel sprouts, liver and a few others that I can’t think of right now.
- I like the smell of bleach…not from the jug but when it’s mixed with water, it smells really clean to me, possibly because I know its one of the best disinfectants out there that doesn’t cost a bazillion dollars.
- I do not crave chocolate like a lot of other women. When I get cravings, they are usually for salty things, popcorn or chips. I don’t think this means anything significant, but at least my sugar levels won’t sky rocket after a craving has been satisfied.
- Even though I lived only a few hours away from it (for 20 years or so) I have never been to Tofino, or Long Beach, or any part of the very west coast.
- I have been part of a road trip that technically went from Quadra Island (my growing up place) to Tijuana, Mexico. I have no idea how long it took as I was all of about 7 years old. I do however remember it taking forever, and Trick or Treating in Arizona. Talk about an odd Halloween huh? I was so used to rain and layers that wearing an almost bathing suit was fantastical.
- I like to make words into other words. I have called it “wordifying” I’d like to think I invented the term but am almost pretty sure I’ll never actually be able to stake my claim to it.
- I have never watched a full episode of: 24, Prison Break, The OC, Seinfeld or Melrose Place. I do not feel ashamed by this, I like to think of it as a way to stay somewhat an individual.
- I named my son Damien Cole simply because I like how the 2 names sounded together. Other influences included what names were NOT in the top 10, top 25, etc. I avoided names we might’ve liked because I refused to be another statistical name. (I just looked it up, and in 2005 only 22 boys were named Damien, in the entire province of Alberta. This is reassuring to me, I really wanted to avoid any Damien W or other ways of indentifying with numbers or initials.)
- I just realized that my sons initials are DW! DARKWING DUCK!!!! (Go ahead, say it, I’m lame!
- I think my slight obsession with names comes from having an original name all through school. While it was shortened to Angel, I had no problem with that, since until maybe grade 8 or so, there was nobody else with the same name as me. I loved it.
- I have trouble swimming in lakes. Growing up right by the ocean has made me brainwashed into thinking lakes are full of dirty dead animal carcasses. Like cows….and they just degrade in the bottom of the lake spreading the gross germs and deadness into our skin when we swim. I justify this with the fact that while a lake may have some change in water motion, rivers and oceans have much more, what with tides and (in the ocean’s case) the large amount of traffic.
- I apparently am immune to the idea of human waste being dumped into oceans all over the world. I know it happens, but the thought never strikes me as making oceans worse than lakes.
- When I picture things in my head, they rarely RARELY come out the same way. I noticed this from around grade 4 or so, when we had to make a Chinese dragon out of a toilet paper tube, and I got the most awesome picture in my head of how it would look, and it looked, quite frankly, like shit when I was done.
- I know I don’t use punctuation properly (especially here) but when I read books and find wrong punctuation, or spelling mistakes, it makes me want to write to the publishers and bitch them out.
- Because of this, I often end up “checking” other peoples works for errors before they finalize them.
- Words I see incorrectly spelled most often: benefit and bored/board. Really the second isn’t an incorrect spelling so much as the person not using the correct word. This bugs me almost …no wait…it bugs me just as much as wrong spelling.
- I should’ve taken english classes after highschool. Or should still.
- I have call display for a reason. If you call my house with a blocked number, you’d be very lucky to have me answer. I’m annoyed by people or companies that block their numbers. I try to avoid answering such calls as much as humanly possible.
- Right now the word “crater” makes me giggle. Only Hayley and her family will understand this.
- I have never met someone with the same birthday as me.

i can relate =)
